HUNT SLONEM

b. 1951, American, Kittery, Maine

Considered one of the great colorists of his time, American artist Hunt Slonem’s Neo-Expressionist oeuvre features an exuberant and bold fauvist palette to emphasize his beloved menagerie of animals.Since 1977, Slonem has had more than 350 exhibitions at prestigious galleries and museums internationally. Slonem’s work is in over eighty museum collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. Ever expansive in his Animalia quest, Slonem continues to boldly pursue his unique vision. Divining new forms for his aesthetic muses in hand-blown glass, neon and other illuminating raw materials, the artist’s impressive career spanning almost five decades enters a new phase of growth. Disciplined yet explosive in his use of color, refined gestures yet still raw and wild, Slonem uses his new mediums of choice with the same deft hand that rocketed him into the coterie of New York art world luminaries of the 1970’s.
